Elder Care Solutions

Deal With It! is a problem solving course that includes many invaluable methods for adult children caring for aging parents. It helps you communicate with elders while making eldercare decisions. Even trying to make simple decisions may be a multistage process. The best way to approach them is by following a specific set of procedures. When you take this course, you will be given series of steps to follow that will help you with any eldercare problem you are likely to face. This course helps you to navigate the challenges in 3 sections:

• Emotional Challenges - The challenges of providing care for an elderly person can be daunting. They are made all the more difficult when you are struggling with emotions you haven't anticipated and do not understand. We help you to get a grip on these right away, the likelihood is that you will make better decisions.

• Eldercare Toolbox - You will learn about tools (specific communication techniques) and strategies (a planned approach) that will help you cope with common problems.

• Dealing with Issues - Here 5 specific eldercare issues are discussed. Each issue is treated in a systematic manner, using a 5-step approach.

Elder Care Solutions includes a complete suite of courses on dealing with the practical problems of elder care. Although elders may gain valuable information by taking this course, care givers are the main target for the material presented. The free Introduction section contains ideas from many members of our faculty on how to get the conversation started with the elder about their future and the level of care that they may need. You will begin to understand the elements that need to be considered in formulating an effective care plan for the future. A Macro Assessment Tool (MAT) and many legal questions are included for you to consider.

In ECS, you will learn how financial ability and functional ability (activities for daily living) interact to determine the reasonable housing options for the elder. Legal and estate planning are important parts of this process. The importance of Long Term Care insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and Nutrition is discussed in detail. Anywhere during this course, you can pause and share the material with the elder.
